I still have gallbladder pain after surgery. Can it grow back?

I had my gallbladder removed 8 years ago. Recently, I have had symptoms just like before my surgery. Can the gallbladder grow back?

No, the gallbladder does not grow back. When it is removed, however, there is still a duct or tube that remains behind to drain bile from the liver to the intestine. It is in this duct that gallstones can form. Symptoms can be similar to your original gallbladder symptoms. Your doctor can order tests or refer you to a specialist to determine if this is the cause of your current symptoms.
